Torchbearer Beta

Calgary Theta Master Chapter was granted its Chater for Beta Sigma Phi in Calgary on April 13, 1995. April 12, 2013 we became Alberta Torchbearer Beta. Our membership consists of 20 members in the 70+ age range. Our members pride themselves in a strong membership and eagerness to participate in all facets of our sorority life.

Our chapter meets on the second and fourth Thursday of the month gathering at 12:30 p.m. for a shared lunchtime before our meetings which are held during the months of September to May inclusive. At the present time we rent a meeting room at Lakeview United Church. We elect a full Executive and committees each year.

Throughout the year we intersperse luncheons and dinners with our business meetings and hold "special events" to include husbands and companions.

Our Ways and Means Committee is active with projects to raise additional monies for the group. The Service Committee has organized support of such charities in our community as the Children's Milk Foundation, Mustard Seed, Inn From The Cold and Street Teams. Our recent service project has been donations to support the Girl Guides of Canada #12 Guide Unit in Calgary. Support of the Lougheed Conservation Society was the restoration of a chair which remains on display at Lougheed House, a National Historic Museum.

Overall, we enjoy our friendships, encouraged by our activities in sorority which further the cultural and betterment of our community.
